New appointments made at Turkmen government

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a number of decisions on new appointments, during an enlarged meeting of the country’s cabinet of ministers, according to the Turkmen government.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a number of decisions on new appointments, during an enlarged meeting of the country's cabinet of ministers, according to the Turkmen government.

Myrat Artykov, who previously served as the energy minister, was appointed deputy chairman of Turkmen cabinet of ministers (deputy prime minister). Artykov will be in charge of the construction, energy, utilities and road construction spheres.

Due to personnel changes, the duties of the energy minister were assigned to the Deputy Energy Minister, Geldy Saryev.

Turkmen government also said that the Deputy Prime Minister Shamuhammet Durdylyev was appointed executive secretary at the office of Turkmen president. Deputy Prime Minister Palvan Taganov, who previously held this position, will remain in charge of trade and stock exchange activities, as well as the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan. Aside from that, Taganov was also instructed to supervise the Akhal velayat (region).

Shatlyk Hummedov, was appointed chairman of the Main State Tax Service of Turkmenistan, according to the Turkmen government. Orazmyrat Gurbannazarov, who previously served as Turkmenistan' ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, was appointed chairman of the State Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan.

Turkmen government also said that Amanmukhammet Myradov was appointed the chairman of the State Livestock Association. He previously served as the first deputy chairman of this association. Tachmammet Gurbanmammedov was appointed deputy minister of textile industry.

Bairamgul Orazdurdyeva was appointed deputy minister of education for higher and secondary vocational schools.

Turkmenistan is in a transitional stage of development. The country's renewed constitution included an article on transition to market economy. The country occupies a key position in the region for its natural gas supplies.

Turkmen government is following a path of diversification of the economy, namely such spheres as, oil and gas processing, textile industry, cotton processing industry and production building materials are being developed in the recent years.

Turkmenistan conducted several reforms in the monetary policy, such as the denomination of the national currency and exchange rate unification. Starting from 2014 the country has moved to the international accounting standards.
