Number of vehicles in Turkey increases by over quarter

The number of vehicles operating in Turkey hit 17,879,453 as of October 2013, which is 27.4 percent more than in the same period of 2012.

The number of vehicles operating in Turkey hit 17,879,453 as of October 2013, which is 27.4 percent more than in the same period of 2012, the Turkish Statistical Institute said.

Some 51.6 percent of the total number of vehicles fell to cars, 16.4 percent - trucks, 15.2 percent - motorcycles, 8.7 percent - tractors, 1.3 percent - buses and 6.8 percent - vehicles for different purposes, according to Turkish Statistical Institute.

Some 41.5 percent of vehicles use liquefied gas, 31.3 percent gasoline and 26.7 percent diesel fuel, the Turkish Statistical Institute said.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe for the production of cars. Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN cars are produced or assembled in Turkey. In addition, Turkey also produces national brand buses such as Temsa and Otokar.
