Georgia intends to increase receipts from tourism

By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: Georgia intends to increase receipts from international tourism by 20 percent in the near future, Georgian National Tourism Administration told Trend on Jan. 29.

International tourism receipts grew considerably in the last few years, according to the tourism administration.

In particular revenues from this sphere of the economy increased by 26 percent to $1,333,574,000 in the first three quarters of 2013 compared to $1,054,478,000 in the same period of 2012.

Meanwhile international tourism receipts increased by 48 percent in 2012 to $1,410,901,000 compared to $954.908 million in 2011. This figure reached $659.245 million in 2010 and $475.889 million in 2009.

The share of tourism in the country's GDP has also increased. Tourism share in GDP hit 6.32 percent in 2012, 6.3 percent in 2011, 6.08 percent in 2010 and 5.83 percent in 2009.
