People crossing between Azerbaijan, Iran through customs decreases by 18.2 percent

Passenger traffic between Iran and Azerbaijan via four customs checkpoints has decreased by 18.2 percent during the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2013) compared to the same period of the last year.

The Iranian Custom Administration's latest report released on Feb. 10 said some 2.206 million people have passed the border checkpoints of Astara, Bilasuvar, Poldasht and Julfa between Iran and Azerbaijan during the period.

The figure stood at 2.697 million in the same period of last year.

Bilasuvar topped the list of custom checkpoint between Iran and Azerbaijan in terms of passenger traffic with some 865,840 passengers, while Julfa (686,779 passengers), Astara (555,907 passengers) and Poldasht (97,870 passengers) followed in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year.

In the same period of the last year Astara custom checkpoint stood at the top of the list of passenger traffic between the two countries with some 1.033 million passengers, followed by Bilasuvar(802,750 passengers), Julfa(784,764 passengers) and Poldasht(76,476 passengers).

Some 24.443 million people have passed in total through Iran's border checkpoints in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year, which indicates a 7.68 percent increase over the same period of last year.

About 12.428 million peoples have entered the country, while some 12.015 million have exited from checkpoints during the period.

Gheshm airport, Imam Khomeini airport and Kish airport customs were the top three checkpoints in terms of passenger traffic with 5.169 million, 4.19 million and 2.653 million passengers` check in and out during the first ten months of the current solar year. The three airports share 49.14 percent of total passenger traffic between Iran and abroad.
