Uzbek Metallurgical Combine to complete oxygen station modernization

The Uzbek Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC , Almalyk city , Tashkent region ) will modernize an oxygen station with a total cost of $33.2 million in September, a representative of the combine told Trend on March 31.

The additional equipment is being installed at the station. It will increase its capacity by 20 percent - up to 131.4 million cubic meters of technical oxygen per year, according to the information.

"We have started installing the equipment," according to the information. "The start-up operations will begin in July. The equipment will be used in September."

The project involves the installation of additional equipment. The main supplier of turnkey equipment is the U.S "Red Mountain Energy Corporation" (RMEC).

"Red Mountain Energy Corporation" (US) is involved in working out the technical documentation for engineering design, equipment supply, installation and start-up operations worth $19.8 million in accordance with the contract signed in 2013.

The feasibility study of the project, which is part of a comprehensive program of technical re-equipping of the combine, has been designed by Uztyazhpromproekt Institute.

The project is financed by the Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development's loan worth $ 19 million and AMMC equity. Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development's loan was delivered for seven years with a two year grace period.

Almalyk MMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan and one of the largest manufacturers of non-ferrous metals in Central Asia. The enterprise produces refined copper (cathode), zinc metal, lead concentrate and other products. Almalyk MMC accounts for 90 percent of silver and 20 percent of gold production in the country.

Some 97.5 percent of shares in the structure of the authorized fund are owned by the state, 2.5 percent - by the staff.

Its resource base is formed by Kalmakyr and Sary Cheku copper-porphyry ore fields (Tashkent region), Uch-Kulach lead-zinc-barite ore field (Djizak region).
