Iran's administration has increased liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price by minimum 100 percent by the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21.

The price of each kilogram of LPG has increased from 1000 rials (some 3.9 cents based on official rate of 25,444 per each USD) to 2100 rials for household use (gas cylinders with total volume less than 11 kilograms), website of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) reported on April 2.

Also the LPG price has increased to 6500 rials per kilograms for industry(cylinders with total volume up to 11 kilograms and gas bulks).

LPG is also used as fuel for cars in Iran. Illegal LPG consumption in transportation vehicles has increased in recent years, just as the gasoline price.

Currently, about 20 LPG stations are in operation across the country, and the government intends to increase the figure.

Meanwhile, there are also unknown numbers of illegal stations which supply LPG for vehicles.

For the time being, LPG has a 5 percent share in the fuel basket of cars in Iran.

On average, some 6,024 tons of LPG were consumed in Iran per day during the Iranian year of 1391 (ended on March 21, 2013), according to the latest statistics of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company.

Iranian officials have claimed that the country has become self-sufficient in the production of LPG.

In 2013, Iran's then deputy Oil Minister, Alireza Zeighami said that produces 12.5 million liters of LPG per day, compared to 9 million liters in 2005.

Along with LPG, Iran also has increased price of kerosene by 50 percent from 1000 to 1500 rials per each liter, meanwhile the price of furnace oil faced an increase by 25 percent from 2000 to 2500 rials per each liters, by the current Iranian calendar year.

On March 31, Iran's administration increased gas prices for the residential and the public sectors by 20 percent and 30 percent respectively on March 31.

Moreover, gas prices for petrochemical and steel units have increased, as well.
