Azerbaijani State Customs Committee (SCC) has announced a 16.54 percent reduction in foreign trade in January-March 2014, compared to the same period of last year.
Some 116 countries were Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners throughout this period, according to a statistical report posted on the SCC website.
The committee said Azerbaijan's total turnover stood at $7.14 billion.
In foreign trade operations there has been a positive balance of about $1.02 billion.
Some 3,036 individuals and legal entities were involved in the country's foreign economic activity throughout this period - some 2,220 of them being legal entities and 816 individuals.
The export operations conducted in the first quarter totalled $5.38 billion, or 15.26 percent less than the figures for the same period of 2013.
The public sector's share in exports totalled $5.1 billion (94.8 percent), while private sector's share was $268.17 million (4.99 percent). The share of individuals in the exports stood at $11.37 million (0.21 percent).
Imports totalled $1.76 billion in January-March, or 20.23 percent less than the figures in the same period of 2013.
The public sector's share in import operations amounted to $389.77 million (22.1 percent), while private sector's share was $1.31 billion (74.2 percent) and individuals' share in import operations totalled $63.33 million (3.7 percent).
Some 1,093 kinds of goods were exported from Azerbaijan in January-March, while 4,372 kinds of goods were imported to the country.
