The construction of a dry port in the territory of the "Khorgos-Eastern Gates" special economic zone will start in Kazakhstan by late 2014, chairman of the Transport Control Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Transport and Communications Asset Asavbayev said at a press conference in Astana on April 25.

"The construction will start with prospective financing through own funds of "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" to the amount of 36.8 billion tenge [$ 1 - 182.01 tenge] and co-financing from the national budget worth 38.4 billion tenge," he said.

Asavbayev said that the dry port will allow Kazakhstan to create a powerful logistics hub in the east, using the potential of the Zhetygen - Khorgos railway and Western Europe-Western China international corridor.

"The integration of container, freight, warehousing services related to road, railway and air infrastructure will allow to offer the whole package of logistics services to customers who supply goods to China (Asia), as well as Western Europe, CIS countries and the Middle East," he added.

He also said that the construction will begin till July 1, 2014. The first phase (a dry port and 30 percent of the logistics zone infrastructure) is planned to be completed by late 2014.
