By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

The number of flights made from the new airport complex of Heydar Aliyev International Airport will be increased after the equipment is installed, deputy head of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Sabir Ilyasov told Trend on May 16.

"Flights to Moscow, Prague and Ankara have been already made from the new airport complex," he said. "We will increase the number of flights after the equipment is installed."

"The new building will be fully focused on international flights," he said. "The old terminal building will be used for both domestic and international flights, including charter."

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the new airport complex of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in April 2014.

The new terminal complex provides conditions for the maximum comfort of passengers. Numerous cafes and restaurants, business lounges, interactive kiosks and a playground were built. There are more than 2,000 comfortable seats, 40 check-in counters in the halls, 30 escalators, 21 elevators and aerobridges out of building. These aerobridges can serve up 12 planes, including the world's largest passenger plane Airbus A380.

A total of 2,857,000 passengers were transported from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to different destinations and back in 2013.

These figures were achieved thanks to an upgrade in the country's air transport in recent years and the replenishment of the aircraft fleet with new modern airliners. The new terminal complex also has a car park for 750 cars.
