Some 160 contracts for subsoil use were terminated since 2010 in Kazakhstan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Isekeshev said.

Some 160 contracts for subsoil use were terminated since 2010 in Kazakhstan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Isekeshev said.

"The work is being carried out with subsoil users, not complying with their obligations," he said.

More than 300 new technical projects with binding commitments worth more than $27 billion were approved under old contracts, which have been concluded prior to 2010, according to the minister.

The minister recalled the projects with major international companies Rio Tinto, Iluka and Kores on the transfer of the most advanced technologies in the sphere of subsoil use to Kazakhstan, are being launched this year.

The Geological cluster comprising Mining School and the Institute of Earth Sciences (in partnership with the Colorado School of Mines), as well as the Center of Geological Research in conjunction with the Kazgeologiya national company are being created at the "Nazarbayev University". Construction of the center will begin in the fourth quarter of 2014.
