Uzbekistan, Japan sign MoU on trade relations expansion

Uzbekistan`s Uzinfoinvest Information Support and Foreign Investments Promotion Agency and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) signed a memorandum of understanding, according to the report by the agency.

Uzbekistan`s Uzinfoinvest Information Support and Foreign Investments Promotion Agency and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) signed a memorandum of understanding, according to the report by the agency.

In accordance with the memorandum, "Uzinfoinvest" and JETRO will exchange economic information, conduct business seminars to assist in attracting foreign direct investment and the expansion of bilateral trade relations, the report said.

In particular, JETRO plans to hold a seminar in Tashkent on the familiarization with Japanese technologies in the energy sphere in autumn.

The document was signed during the Japanese business circle representatives` visit to Uzbekistan. The delegation included representatives of Japanese companies operating in the fields of trade, engineering, aviation, electrical engineering, ICT, energy and petrochemical industries, the report said.

The first overseas office of the JETRO was opened in Central Asia in Tashkent in October, 2000. The activity of the representative office is aimed at promoting the development of export industries, revitalization of Japanese enterprises in the field of investment, establishment of contacts between the two countries in the production and technology sphere, as well as collecting and storing information about the economy and industry of the Central Asian region.

Japan is one of the largest investors in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek-Japanese and Japanese-Uzbek economic cooperation committees operate successfully.

Besides JETRO, representative office of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been accredited in Tashkent.
