By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran has announced the plans to boost trade ties with Russia.

Mojtaba Khosrotaj, Iranian deputy industry minister, said preliminary steps have been taken to launch a preferential trade system between the two countries, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on September 14.

"We have announced our readiness to export agricultural and petrochemical products to Russia at discount prices," he added.

"We have also called on the Russian government to facilitate the activity of Iranian engineering companies in Russia," he said.

"Iran has agreed to streamline the process of issuing visas for Russian businessmen," he said.

On Aug. 5, Russia and Iran signed a MoU for a period of five years, signaling a sharp intensification in economic cooperation between the two countries. The document lays the foundation for a comprehensive multi-billion dollar deal for trade in the oil sector between the two nations.

The Russian Energy Ministry said that the memorandum provides for the expansion of trade and economic cooperation in the fields of construction and reconstruction of power generating capacity, the development of power grid infrastructure, the oil and gas sector, as well as the supply of machinery, equipment and consumer goods.
