The issue of creation of a technical committee for alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan is being worked out, the country's State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents told Trend.
The creation of the technical committee has been initiated by this committee.
The state committee said that currently, it is carrying out joint work with the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources on the creation of the technical committee.
"The work on the creation of a new technical committee is underway and this issue will be resolved soon," said the state committee.
Alternative energy sphere has significantly developed in Azerbaijan in recent years. The 'State Strategy for the development of alternative and renewable energy sources till 2020' was worked out as part of the development of the alternative energy sphere in the country.
Azerbaijan has great potential for the development of the alternative energy sphere. The wind power potential in the country is equal to 4,500 megawatt, biomass - 1,500 megawatt, geothermal energy - 800 megawatt, small hydro power plants - 350 megawatt.
It is planned to increase the share of the alternative energy sources in the consumption volume in Azerbaijan to 20 percent by 2020.
