Azerbaijan and Finland have the potential to expand the economic cooperation, Roving Ambassador of Finland to Southern Caucasus Christer Mickelson told Trend March 2.
He said that Azerbaijan and Finland can expand ties in the field of oil cooperation, environmentally friendly technologies, as well as forestry.
"Forestry might be interesting for Azerbaijan," he said. "In Finland we have huge forests. We have the potential in the field of clean technologies that enhance ecological sustainability. Many Finnish companies are world class in this field in the world."
He said that the trade turnover between the two countries is a little more than 50 million euros.
"We can raise the current level of trade turnover," he said. "Finland is a high-tech country. The Azerbaijani economy is being developed dynamically. I think we have a lot of prospects to continue the cooperation."
The diplomat also commented on the political cooperation between the two countries.
"During my visits I focus on bilateral relations, the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan, as well as security policy," he said. "I represent my country. I am interested in the position of Azerbaijan. During this visit, I had several meetings at the Azerbaijani foreign ministry. I met with my EU counterparts, as well as some representatives of non-governmental organizations. I am trying to describe the situation in Azerbaijan and strengthen ties between the two sides."
He said that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Finland is at a good level.
According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the foreign trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Finland increased by 10.96 percent during the year. As of 2014, it reached $70.9 million. The goods worth $70.87 million were imported to Azerbaijan. The exports totaled $30,800.
