Uzbekistan to host int’l cotton fair

Tashkent will host XI International Uzbek Cotton Fair October 15-16, the message of the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) said.
The message said that this traditional fair leads to active promotion of Uzbek cotton on the world market.
Measures are made in Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan in the process of preparing for the fair in order to ensure the ginning factories with modern equipment, increasing capacity utilization, volume of products capable of competing on the world cotton market.
In the current year, Uzbekistan has grown a rich cotton crop on 119.6 hectares of fields. Currently, Uzbekistan pays great attention to cotton harvesting as soon as possible and to its processing quality.
Angorpakhta JSC, which was renovated and equipped with modern facilities under the government program, received nearly 25,000 tons of cotton grown in Termez and Angora areas from the beginning of the season and processed more than 4 million tons of raw materials, the message said. Particular importance is attached to the preservation of fiber quality and increasing production efficiency of the enterprise.
The chairman of the Angorpakhta JSC Rustam Rakhmonov said that technical and technological renewal of the enterprise conducted three years ago provided the opportunity to increase production capacity and processing volumes up to 40,000 tons per year.
Work efficiency has increased, while energy consumption decreased by 25 percent, he said. As a result, the company manufactures fiber, which is fully compliant with demands of the global market, and seeds are being procured for the next year's harvest.
Cotton processing is conducted in other areas of the region, climatic conditions of which make it possible to grow early maturing varieties of cotton with a durable fiber, according to the message.
It was previously reported that more than 3.4 million tons of cotton were harvested in Uzbekistan in 2014.
