Livestock, crop production increases in Azerbaijan

The agricultural production in Azerbaijan at current prices increased by 11.6 percent in Jan.-Sept. 2015, compared to the same period of 2014 and totaled 4.81 billion manats, said the report from the country's State Statistical Committee.

The official exchange rate on Oct.21 is 1.0474 AZN/USD.

During the reporting period, the livestock and crop production have increased by 2.5 percent and 10.4 percent, respectively.

Harvesting of the major plant products has almost been completed in the country. As of Oct.1, 2015, 2.782 million tons of grain was harvested from the territory of 914,000 hectares (99.9 percent of the total sown areas of grain and legumes (excluding wheat)), or 27.7 percent more than in the same period of 2014. On average, 30.4 quintals of products was harvested from each hectare. The total yield has increased by 7.6 quintals.

High crop yield is observed in corn harvesting. The average yield per hectare has increased by 6.7 quintals compared to the same period of 2014 and reached 59.1 quintals. Moreover, 168,200 tons of corn was harvested from the territory of 28,500 hectares (78.1 percent of the total sown area).

In general, 822,300 tons of potatoes, 1.17 million tons of vegetables, 481,500 tons of melon, 533,400 tons of fruits and berries, 111,700 tons of grapes, 556.5 tons of tea and 2,800 tons of tobacco was harvested during the reporting period, or 1.7 percent, 4.2 percent, 9.5 percent, 0.2 percent, 5.3 percent, 37.7 percent and 26.2 percent more than in the same period of 2014.

Furthermore, 18,800 tons of sunflowers were harvested in Jan.-Sept. 2015, which is 5.05 percent less than in the same period of 2014.

The country has produced 331,400 tons of meat in live weight, 1.47 million tons of milk, 1.16 billion eggs and 16,500 tons of wool during the reporting period.

The meat production in Azerbaijan has increased by two percent compared to Jan.-Sept. 2014, milk - 3.8 percent, wool - 1.6 percent, while the egg production has dropped by 0.6 percent.
