The Samruk-Kazyna Kazakh National Welfare Fund has signed a five-year syndicated term loan facility worth $1.5 billion, the press service of the fund said Oct.28.

The Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. a member of the MUFG Group was mandated as sole coordinator, bookrunner and mandated lead arranger on the facility which was a debut transaction for the borrower.

The Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ joined this relationship defining facility with JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., Mizuho Bank, Ltd, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Credit Suisse AG and Deutsche Bank AG.

The initial loan amounted to $1 billion, however, the Samruk-Kazyna could upsize the deal to a final quantum of $1.5 billion.

The Samruk-Kazyna has created a syndicate of highly regarded international banks whilst raising financing at competitive terms to back the acquisition of 50 percent of KazMunaiGas's share in KMG Kashagan, a shareholder in the project to develop the giant Kashagan oil field in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.
