Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee (SCC) will introduce an automated risks management system in 2016, Chief of Main Department for Activity Assessment and Development Programs of the State Customs Committee, customs service Major-General Igbal Babayev told Trend.

"We already have an operational management center," said Babayev. "The use of an automated risks management system will allow us to work quickly with the goods and vehicles, which are under the risk category."

This project is among the priorities of the current year, he said.

"In general, the increased use of information technologies in the customs field will allow us to reduce our expenses while crossing borders, increase transparency and correspondingly reduce the level of corruption, minimize contacts between citizens and the customs authorities, to promote the growth of trade turnover and the improvement of the country's transit opportunities," explained Babayev.

In addition Babayev noted that it is necessary to improve the legislation for the development of information and communication services.

"Currently, we are changing the legislation in the field of e-declaration," said Babayev adding that the documents are under consideration by the Cabinet of Ministers and Ministry of Justice.

Meanwhile, Babayev added that Azerbaijan is among the top ten countries in terms of IT-systems development, according to the World Customs Organization.

"In general, we have already fulfilled almost all the tasks assigned us by the World Customs Organization," he added.
