Regular railway trips to be launched on Trans-Caspian Route in 2016

Regular railway trips are planned to be launched on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in 2016, Kanat Alpysbayev, vice-president of the Kazakhstan Railways JSC, told Trend Feb. 24.

Alpysbayev added that 53 container trains are also planned to start running on this route before late 2016.

He said an international consortium is being created within the KTZ Express (a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways), Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC, Azerbaijani Karvan Logistics and Trans Caucasus Terminals LLC (a subsidiary of the Georgian Railway LLC) to organize and improve regular container transportations via the Trans-Caspian route.

Alpysbayev added that three test trains have already started running on the Trans-Caspian route.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route stretches to Europe from China, through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
