Azerbaijan’s Financial Market Supervisory Body and relevant state authorities terminated the spread of false information via SMS by a structure on the US dollar’s exchange rate against the Azerbaijani manat, Advisor to the Chairman of the Supervisory Body’s Board of Directors Rufat Abbasov told Trend Sept. 6.

It should be noted that the structure was sending wrong information regarding the US dollar exchange rate using the short number 9944. The sent SMS contained information that the purchase price of the US dollar was 1.785-1.87 manats in the Azerbaijani market, while the official exchange rate of the Central Bank was 1.6362 manats per US dollar.

The SMS contained even the phone number of the structure: (+99412) 404 13 89.

According to the currency exchange rate corridor set by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), currency exchange offices can’t buy US dollars from population at a rate less than 1.5708 manats per dollar or sell the US dollars at a rate exceeding 1.7016 manats per dollar.

The exchange rates at banks should not be less than 1.751 manats when buying euros from the population and should not exceed 1.8968 manats when selling them.
