As much as 2,028 kilometers of the international transport corridor "Western Europe - Western China" have been build and reconstructed in Kazakhstan, Kazakh Investment and Development Ministry reported.
The corridor’s road sections from the city of Shymkent till Russian border and between the cities of Taraz and Almaty have already been opened for traffic. Construction works are ongoing on the transport corridor’s Almaty - Khorgos 304-kilometer long section, Shymkent - Tashkent 100-kilometer long section and Shymkent - Zhambyl region border 81-kilometer long section.
The mentioned road sections will be opened for traffic until the yearend.
The total length of the international corridor Western Europe-Western China running from the port of Lianyungan in China to St. Petersburg in Russia exceeds 8,400 kilometers.
As much as 2,787 kilometers of the corridor falls on Kazakhstan, including 2,452 kilometers which required reconstruction.
Construction of Kazakhstan’s sections of the corridor is financed by international financial institutions (the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency) and by Kazakhstan.
Western Europe - Western China corridor will reduce the time of cargo transportation from China to Europe to 8-9 days.
