Azerbaijani banks’ reserves increase in 2016

The bank reserves amounted to 2.26 billion manats in Azerbaijan as of Jan. 1, 2017, which is by 5.6 percent more than in December 2015 (2.14 billion manats), read a report issued by the country’s Central Bank (CBA).

The report said that the broad monetary base in the country as of late December 2016, amounted to 9.23 billion manats or by 22.1 percent more compared to the same period of 2015. For comparison: this figure amounted to 7.56 billion manats as of late December 2015.

According to the CBA, as of Jan. 1, 2017, the monetary base in manats amounted to 7.86 billion manats compared to 6.9 billion manats as of Jan.1, 2016.

The volume of currency in circulation amounted to 6.96 billion manats during the reporting period, while this figure stood at 5.42 billion manats as of Jan. 1, 2016.

The ratio of cash in circulation to monetary base as of Jan. 1, 2017 amounted to 75.4 percent, increasing by 3.8 percentage points compared to late Dec. 2015.
