Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Sept. 21

By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Experts of the Chemistry-Senagat economic society in Turkmenistan plan to start iodine production until late 2017, the country’s government said in a message Sept. 21.

Imported technological equipment has already been installed for processing associated waters of oil fields containing chemically active non-metals belonging to the group of halogens.

Also, the installation of auxiliary equipment necessary for the production of reagents - caustic soda and chlorine – has recently been completed.

With the help of the latest equipment, iodine will be extracted from technical water by air desorption method, which will make it possible to automate the process, ensure high quality of products and save energy at the same time. The capacity of the equipment purchased in Iran will allow producing up to 100 tons of iodine crystals.

At present, Turkmenistan is the fifth biggest iodine producer in the world - 500-520 tons of iodine are annually produced in the country. It is planned to bring this figure to 1,000 tons per year. This will be done through the development of new deposits of iodine-containing solutions and construction of high-performance enterprises in the country.
