The Export-Import Bank of the US (EXIM) will resume cooperation with Uzbekistan after a 13-year break, said Sukhrob Holmuradov, chairman of the board of the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity, Podrobno.uz news agency reported.

“Negotiations were held with the EXIM Bank of the US,” Holmuradov said at an international press club meeting. “This is quite an influential international financial institution. During our talks, they gave very high assessment to the ongoing reforms. Agreements were reached on the resumption of relations.”

The talks were held as part of the recent visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the US.

Holmuradov noted that the US bank in an official letter informed that it is ready to cooperate in financing projects. The bank will be able to allocate loans to Uzbekistan for the purchase of Boeing aircraft and other technological equipment, he added.

Holmuradov also told reporters about Visa Card’s interest in expanding its presence in Uzbekistan.

“They admit that the unification of exchange rates and the liberalization of the foreign exchange market in Uzbekistan open a new very big market for them,” he said.
