Turkmenistan eyes to ensure GDP growth in coming years

It is planned to ensure annual growth of Turkmenistan’s GDP at 6.2-8.2 percent in 2018-2024, the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said Oct. 9, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

The Turkmen president was speaking at a meeting of the Council of Elders in the Akbugday district of the country’s Ahal region.

It was noted that some economic and political developments that have taken place in the world in recent years, and to some extent, had a negative impact on Turkmenistan’s economic growth.

Considering this, it was tasked to fully use all resources and opportunities for stabilize growth of national economy, accelerate transition to market relations, in particular, rapid development of private sector of Turkmen economy.

It was also envisaged to create joint ventures and joint-stock companies, strengthen the activity of stock exchanges and securities market.

On this basis, the project of “Program of Turkmen president for country’s socio-economic development in 2018-2024” was developed.

The program defines goals of Turkmenistan’s social and economic development for the next seven years, reflects the upcoming tasks, basic principles, priority directions and expected results.

In addition, measures have been outlined to implement these goals, including improving the efficiency of economic institutions, tasks were formulated to improve the state regulation system and the ways of its modernization.

It is also planned to take all necessary steps to improve macroeconomic regulation amid the global financial and economic crisis, achieve balance of macroeconomic indicators, continue reforming the financial and banking sector.
