Uzbekistan, Iran talk transport, trade, aim to improve investment co-op

The delegation of Uzbekistan, led by the country’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran Muhammad Shariatmadari on October 17, within the official visit to the Islamic Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said in a message.

Uzbek Minister of Foreign Trade Elyor Ganiyev also participated in the meeting.

The parties agreed that one of the priority areas of Uzbek-Iranian relations is the increase of volume of bilateral trade with its further diversification, as well as the achievement of a new higher level of investment cooperation.

The officials also discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation in the field of transport and communication, confirming the readiness of the two countries to develop relations within the agreement on the international transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman signed in April 2011.

Previously Uzbek foreign minister met with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif. The ministers agreed that the meeting between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, held in Astana on September 11, gave a new impetus to the activation of the Uzbek-Iranian relations.

The cooperation between the two countries within the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was also discussed at the meeting.

Following the talks, the ministers signed the Cooperation Program for 2018-2019 between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Iran.
