By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

There is a little long-term probability of Azerbaijan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), according to the monograph of the Center for Integration Studies of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

According to the monograph, there is such a probability for Georgia and Moldova. Ukraine’s joining EEU would be of deep economic significance, but this prospect can not be considered seriously due to the recent events.

"We should not forget about a full-fledged alternative to joining EEU, namely, the development of close relations within the various trade and economic agreements, which would regulate access to the markets of goods and services, big cross-border infrastructure projects and so on," the authors of the monograph said.

EEU in different years conducted surveys in the post-Soviet countries regarding the possibility of their countries’ joining the EEU. According to the monograph, the results of these polls show that the current preferences of the population of Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Georgia are incompatible with Eurasian integration.

According to the survey, Tajikistan is the most realistic candidate for joining the EEU.

The Eurasian Economic Union has been operating since 2015. It includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. Moldova has an observer status in EEU since 2017.
