Azerbaijan’s MuganBank intends to offer its clients four new type of cards card soon, Anar Akhundov, director of plastic card department of the bank, told Trend Oct. 23.
Akhundov added that the bank intends to offer plastic cards of one of the biggest international payment systems UnionPay International (UPI), namely, UnionPay Classic, UnionPay Gold, UnionPay Platinum and UnionPay Diamond.
"We already offer our clients MasterCard and Visa cards,” he said. “But we have concluded an agreement with China UnionPay company to expand the type of offered cards. Now we are completing to acquire and issue cards and four new cards will be available to our customers soon."
He added that new MasterCard Debit and Maestro cards will also be issued within a month.
"I think that a big number of card types must have a certain influence on the development of non-cash settlements in the country," he said.
UnionPay International is a subsidiary of China UnionPay and specializes in promoting the company in the international arena.
At present, besides Chinese banks, UnionPay cards are issued by some banks of Thailand, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Pakistan, Singapore, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
At present, the International Bank of Azerbaijan, Azer-Turk Bank and AtaBank cooperate with that company in Azerbaijan.
