Turkish ministry working on implementation of over 40 projects

Currently, Turkey is working on the implementation of 50 transport and communication projects, a source in the country’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend Nov. 7.

“Up until now, more than 139 billion Turkish lira have been spent on the implementation of projects,” the ministry said. "Around 49 percent of the total amount was spent for the implementation of railway projects."

Over 180 billion Turkish lira can be spent on the implementation of 50 projects. Among the projects which are being implemented in the country is the construction of logistics centers.

"At present, Turkey ranks 34th in the number of logistics centers in the world,” the ministry said. “Turkey can be among the first ten countries due to the measures being taken in the country.”

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend that Turkey intends to become a global logistics hub and a large-scale work is underway to achieve this goal.

The work is underway to establish several logistics centers in Turkey and the total area of ​​all logistics centers in Turkey is expected to be 10 million square meters, the ministry said.

Construction of new logistics centers in Turkey will make it possible to transport 35 million tons of cargoes and will contribute to economic growth as a whole.

Twenty-one logistics centers are planned to be built in Turkey in the near future, said the ministry.

Foundation of a new logistics center was laid in the Konya province on Aug. 19.

“Such logistics centers as Kahramanmaras-Turkoglu, Bilecik-Bozuyuk, Erzurum-Palandoken, Mersin-Yenice, Konya-Kayacik and Izmir-Kemalpasa are under construction,” the ministry said.

Logistics centers are also planned to be opened in Istanbul, Kars, Mardin, Sirnak, Kayseri, Sivas, Bitlis and Karaman provinces, said the ministry.

The official exchange rate for Nov. 7 is 3.8660 TRY/USD.
