The cost of construction of Istanbul Canal, a waterway that will link the Black and Marmara seas, is estimated at 60 billion liras, according to preliminary information, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey told Trend Dec. 12.
“Five routes of the canal’s construction were proposed earlier,” the ministry said. “The final route was defined Dec. 6.”
It was noted that the construction project received an environmental safety certificate.
The ministry noted that 6,000 people will be involved in the construction of the canal.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed the intention to implement the Istanbul Canal project in 2011.
The length of the Istanbul Canal will be 43 kilometers, while its depth and width will be 25 meters and 400 meters, respectively.
