By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
The soil, extracted during the laying of the “Istanbul” shipping channel in Turkey, will be used to create three islands in the Marmara and Black Seas, a source in the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend.
It is planned that the area of the first island will be 186 hectares, the area of the second island – 155 hectares, and the area of the third island will be 104 hectares, said the source.
It is expected that the work will start on the construction of artificial islands in the middle of 2018, according to the source.
Earlier, the ministry told Trend that nearly 2.7 billion cubic meters of land will be used to create the artificial islands.
The subsequent use of the islands will be carried out on a commercial basis, and it is also planned to build residential quarters there, said the ministry adding that there is a similar practice in the world.
