The number of cars per capita is very low in Azerbaijan, Ramil Osmanli, director of the Expert Center for Real Estate, said in Baku at a press conference on the situation on the car market.
“Today, about 1.4 million cars are registered in Azerbaijan, which means that about 14 cars account for every 100 people in the country,” the expert said. “We are lagging behind on this indicator from the CIS member countries. About 7 cars account for every 10 people in Russia, 5.5 cars in Kazakhstan, five cars in Ukraine.”
During the last few years import of motor vehicles to Azerbaijan has significantly decreased. In 2016, only 5,746 vehicles were brought into the country. This is while in 2017, imports have more than doubled.
Azerbaijan imported 13,098 vehicles in 2017. Some 11,610 of the imported vehicles are cars and motor vehicles.
In 2016, the country imported 4,991 cars and motor vehicles.
Moreover, Azerbaijan imported 1,227 trucks in 2017 and the remaining part accounted for other types of vehicles.
