A new customs checkpoint will appear on Azerbaijan-Georgia border, Aydin Aliyev, chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, said in an exclusive interview with Trend.

“The new customs checkpoint will be built near the existing Sadigli-Mtkvari customs checkpoint,” Aliyev said. “We have already reached an agreement with Georgia. Besides, we asked the Georgian side to define the exact coordinates of the new customs checkpoint.”

He noted that at the same time, the work continues as part of the project “Support for Development of Siniq Korpu Border Checkpoint” launched in 2016.

“This project is an indicator of the long-term plans of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee in the context of ensuring safety of transportation and regulating the flow of goods and vehicles,” he added. “Trade facilitation center, the construction of which will be completed in the near future, will make it possible to speed up customs procedures, create conditions for implementing phytosanitary, sanitary and customs control outside the checkpoint. Places for cargo unloading, warehouses and other conditions to be created in the center will make it possible to carry out customs control more effectively.”

There are six customs checkpoints operating on Azerbaijan-Georgia border.
