The Economic Procedural Code of Uzbekistan approved a special jurisdiction for cases involving foreign persons and expanded the competence of economic courts to review them.
Henceforth, the cases, in which one of the parties is a foreigner/non-resident, will be considered by economic courts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and Tashkent. That is, the courts of the regional level in this case are the first instance courts. Inter-district and district (city) economic courts will not consider such cases.
The competence of economic courts of Uzbekistan in cases involving foreign participants is also expanded.
In addition, the competence of economic courts of Uzbekistan will cover the cases with participation of foreigners in disputes related to property owned by the state, including disputes related to denationalization and privatization of state property and forced alienation of property for state purposes, the subject of which is immovable property located in the territory of Uzbekistan.
The Economic Procedural Code will replace the current commercial procedural code (CPD) on April 1.
