Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited the Italian companies “Astaldi” and “Salini Impregilo” to participate in the construction of the Istanbul Canal, a waterway that will link the Black and Marmara seas, Turkish media reported Feb. 8 referring to sources in the government.
If the companies agree to take part in the construction of the Istanbul Canal, a joint consortium with Turkish companies will be established.
The cost of construction is estimated at 60 billion liras. The construction project received an environmental safety certificate.
As many as 6,000 people will be involved in the construction.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed the intention to implement the Istanbul Canal project in 2011.
The depth and width of the Istanbul Canal will be 25 meters and 400 meters, respectively.
