Negative balance recorded in Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover

Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover for January 2018 was about $ 1.8 billion, while exports amounted to about $ 0.7 billion and imports - $ 1.1 billion, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said in a message.

The volume of negatiove balance in the foreign trade hit $ 433.9 million.

The export of machinery and equipment increased by threefold as compared to the same period of 2017, due to an increase in export of transformers and batteries - by 46.7 percent, cable-conductor products - 5.4 times, boilers, equipment and mechanical appliances and their spare parts - on 9,1 percent.

The volume of exports of food products increased by 40.8 percent, due to an increase in exports of wheat - by 6.8 times and fruit and vegetable products - 28.8 percent.

The increase in exports of energy and oil products (2.3 times) is observed due to an increase in natural gas exports by 3.3 times.

In the structure of imports, the major share is accounted for machinery and equipment - 35.4 percent and chemical products - 14.8 percent.

The share of services in total exports hit 34.1 percent, where 16.1 percent accounted for transport services, and 15.1 percent - travel services.

The volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to $ 29.7 million, or increased compared to the same period last year by 28.8 percent. Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products, the share of fruits and berries accounted for 21.1 percent (increased by 6.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), vegetables - 52.9 percent (compared to 27.6 percent), grapes-22 percent ( compared to 49.5 percent).

The main foreign trade partners of the country are Kazakhstan (36.1 percent of the total volume ), Afghanistan (15 percent), Russia (7.5 percent), Turkey (5.8 percent), India (5.1 percent), Iran 3.9 percent), China (3.7 percent), the United Arab Emirates (3.5 percent), Kyrgyzstan (2.9 percent) Pakistan (2.6 percent), Vietnam (2.3 percent) and Iraq (1.8 percent).

In January 2018, the share of exports of fruit and vegetables in total exports hit 4.3 percent.

The physical volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to 43,900 tons, or increased by 37.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

In January 2018, the share of exports of textile products in total exports was 14.7 percent. The volume of exports of textile products amounted to $ 102.7 million, or increased by 15.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

In 2017, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover increased by 11.3 percent compared to 2016 and amounted to $26.962 billion.

The volume of exports from Uzbekistan increased by 15.4 percent to $ 13.954 billion, and imports to $ 13.008 billion. Accordingly, the positive balance of foreign trade amounted to $945.5 million - against a negative balance of $43 million a year earlier.

Last year, the main foreign trade partners of the country were China (18.4 percent in total commodity turnover), Russia (18.1 percent), Kazakhstan (7.7 percent), Turkey (5.7 percent) and South Korea (5 percent).
