Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov signed a resolution on organization of cotton-textile production in the country.

Under the document, enterprises and farmers, who produce cotton fiber, can purchase agricultural equipment via leasing.

Furthermore, following conditions will also be created: cotton fiber certification for own needs will be carried out on a voluntary basis; volumes of produced cotton fiber, which exceed the need for own production capacities, will be sold by organizers of production under direct contracts or through exchange trades; cotton seeds will be sold through exchange trades; prices for raw cotton are set on a contractual basis taking into account the profitability of farms and should not be lower than the prices established for state needs.

In addition, within 10 days, a list of farms will be identified, which will get a practical assistance in concluding contractual agreements with the organizers of cotton and textile production.

Also, a standard contract on cultivation and supply of raw cotton will be developed and approved, which will later be concluded between farms and organizers of cotton and textile production.

The document also specifies that the organizers of cotton-textile production in 2018 will be granted loans at 3 percent per annum interest.

The funds allocated for cultivation of raw cotton for cotton-textile production are transferred to a special farm account and can be used exclusively for purchase of goods (works and services) needed to grow a new crop.

In 2017, more than 2.93 million tons of raw cotton were produced in Uzbekistan, according to the official statistics.

Some 3.1 million tons of raw cotton are planned to be produced in Uzbekistan in 2018.
