Inflation expectations of Kazakh population decreased

The estimation of inflationary expectations of Kazakh population (inflation expected after 12 months) decreased from 7.1 percent in December 2017 to 6.6 percent in January 2018, the National Bank of Kazakhstan said in a message on Feb.14.

The figure is within the targeted inflation corridor for the current year.

According to the National Bank, the results of a population survey conducted in January 2018 to assess inflationary expectations show a continuing level of perceived inflation.

Price increase "over the past month" perceived by population is at a stable level, and "for the last 12 months" has slightly decreased.

There was recorded a decrease in expectations of the population regarding the price increase in the future.

Expectations for price growth next month dropped significantly to 53 percent (in December 2017 - 67 percent) due to a significant decrease in the proportion of respondents suggesting a strong (from 23 percent to 14 percent) and moderate growth (from 44 percent to 39 percent ).

Last year, inflation in Kazakhstan was at the level of 7.1 percent. Prices for foodstuffs for the increased by 6.5 percent, non-food products by 8.9 percent and paid services by 5.9 percent.
