In January 2018, 16.9 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan’s modes of transport, that is, by 0.3 percent more than in January 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Non-oil cargo traffic increased by 3 percent and amounted to 12.4 million tons for the year.

According to the report, 78 percent of the total cargo transported in January 2018 accounted for private sector.

Thus, 57.6 percent of the total cargo was transported by motor vehicles, 31.1 percent – by pipelines, 7.2 percent – by trains, 4 percent – by ships and 0.1 percent - by planes.

Moreover, 143.7 million people were carried by passenger transport in January 2018, which is by 1.6 percent more than in January 2017.

According to the report, 86.8 percent of passengers were transported by motor vehicles, 12.9 percent by subway and the remaining passengers – by other modes of transport.

Thus, 1.2 million tons of cargo was transported by trains in January 2018, which is by 16.2 percent less than in January 2017, the report said.

On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 298, while the number of unloaded railcars was 384.

Average daily load of carriages going in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 11,000 tons, in western direction – 4,300 tons and in the southern direction – 400 tons.

According to the report, 683,400 tons of cargo were transported by ships in January 2018, or by 6.6 percent more than in January 2017. So, 51.8 percent of the transported cargo accounted for oil cargo.

Some 908,500 tons of cargo were handled at the Azerbaijani ports in January 2018.

According to the report, 9.7 million tons of cargo were transported by motor vehicles in January 2018, which is by 2.1 percent more than in January 2017.

Thus, 124.7 million people were transported by vehicles in January 2018 (an increase by 1.4 percent as compared to January 2017). Some 96.4 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.6 percent - by cars.

Moreover, 18.6 million people were transported by subway in January 2018, that is, by 2.7 percent more than in January 2017.

Thus, 169,600 passengers were transported by planes in January 2018, that’s by 15.6 percent more than in January 2017.

Around 0.1 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period, the report said.
