A solemn opening ceremony of Turkmenistan’s Caspian port of Turkmenbashi will be held in the first decade of May 2018, a source familiar with the event’s organization told Trend Feb. 27.
Realisation of the project was launched in 2014.
Terminals for ferries and passengers, a terminal for containers, a common cargo port, a port for bulk cargo, a complex for building and repairing ships, and terminals for trailer transportation and polypropylene are being built as part of the project.
“The project with a budget of $1.5 billion will become the biggest port of the Caspian Sea,” said a message posted on the website of Turkey’s Gap Inşaat company, which is carrying out the project’s implementation.
Annual capacity of the port will be 17-18 million tons.
