Active integration into the international transport system is a topical task for Turkmenistan, the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting, Watan newspaper reported.
The president noted that for this purpose, airport complexes and railway stations with the latest equipment, as well as engineering facilities were built, the existing highways were modernized and the new ones were laid in Turkmenistan.
“Measures being taken by Turkmenistan to revive the Great Silk Road in the context of accelerated formation of modern transport and logistics infrastructure, communications and telecommunications system have given powerful impetus not only to the development of the national economy, but also the economies of the countries in the region,” the report noted.
Turkmen president focused on the need to introduce advanced technologies, exchange experience, useful innovative developments with foreign partners.
The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railways, airports in Ashgabat and regions, high-speed roadways, bridges across the Amu Darya river, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, other facilities that are already in operation, as well as those which are being built, are intended to become the key links in the transnational transport corridors.
