By Ilkin Shafiyev – Trend:

Russian Railways Logistics plans to increase transportation along the North-South Transport Corridor by at least 10 percent in 2018, the RRL First Deputy CEO Eduard Alyrzaev told Trend on April 6.

"According to our calculations, 55,000 tons of goods were transported along different lines of this transport corridor in 2017 with the participation of Russian Railways. These are transit, import and export shipments. Metals, machinery, fertilizers, timber and chemicals were transported. In 2018, we expect to increase transportation by 10 percent,” he said, adding, “The result can be much higher.”

Alyrzaev said the project has great prospects.

"If we take into account the transportation by our company from the very beginning of the route, the volumes are still small. But one can see the positive dynamics of growth, which is very important," he added.

Russian Railways Logistics is the largest multimodal logistics operator in the CIS and Baltic countries. The company is one of the leaders of the Russian market of logistics outsourcing for industrial enterprises, providing integrated services for managing supply chains.

The International North-South Transport Corridor is meant to connect Northern Europe with Southeast Asia. It will serve as a link connecting the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. At an initial stage, it is planned to transport 5 million tons of cargo per year through the corridor and over 10 million tons of cargo in the future.
