Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, May 1
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister Ismatullo Nasredin met with Turkmen officials in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message May 1.
Challenges and threats to regional security and stability, joint efforts in the fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking, and assistance to neighboring Afghanistan were discussed at the meeting.
“Discussing the issues of trade and economic cooperation, the sides noted the need to increase the volume of trade turnover and export-import operations between our countries,” the message said.
Construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway, which is meant to boost the trade and economic relations throughout the Eurasian continent, is among the jointly beneficial economic measures.
Turkmenistan exports electricity to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey. Ashgabat plans to produce 27.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2020 and increase the figure to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours in 2030.
Turkmenistan can also supply electricity to Tajikistan through Afghanistan during the autumn-winter period.
