Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan expand co-op in textile production

Kazakhstan’s Shymkent city holds an exhibition of textile products named "South Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan," the press service of the South-Kazakhstan region’s (SKR) executive body said in a message.

Nearly 60 Kazakh and Uzbek companies take part in the exhibition in such spheres as light industry, textiles, clothing and leather products, pharmaceuticals, furniture, souvenirs, sports goods and toys.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, the head of the region Zhanseit Tuimebayev expressed confidence in the further development of mutual cooperation and the strengthening of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

"Today's event is another step towards mutual cooperation and establishment of strong fraternal relations between the South Kazakhstan region and Uzbekistan," Tuimebayev said.

The participants of the exhibition also plan to take part in a round table named "Regional cooperation and integration: enhancing the competitiveness of entrepreneurs of the Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with the expansion of markets."

Kazakhstan’s volume of foreign trade turnover with Uzbekistan reached $2 billion in 2017. Slightly more than 30 percent of the trade turnover accounts for the South-Kazakhstan region. Export of Kazakh products to Uzbekistan increased by 29.7 percent ($252.8 million), and import of Uzbek products increased by 9.4 percent ($369.8 million).

To date, more than a thousand South Kazakh companies and organizations in the fields of industry, trade, agriculture, construction, as well as in medicine and education, have established successful cooperation with Uzbek enterprises.
