Turkmenistan among largest producers of iodine and bromine

The availability of significant raw materials allows Turkmenistan to be among the largest producers of iodine, bromine and a wide range of other chemical products, the Vatan newspaper reported June 1.

Turkmenkhimiya state concern annually produces more than 540 tons of iodine. The state concern has announced an international tender for the construction of plants for the production of iodine, bromine and its derivatives with the reconstruction of raw materials bases of the chemical plant "Khazar" and iodine plant "Balkanabat".

Four pilot plants capable of producing up to 90 tons of technical iodine per year are built at the Chukurguyi field, located in the Esenguly etrap (district) of the Balkan region.

In order to provide these units with raw materials, namely, iodine-chromium water, the work on drilling a number of production wells is implemented with help of enterprises of Turkmengeology state corporation.
