Living wage in Kazakhstan increases

The living wage in Kazakhstan amounted to 26,500 tenge in May 2018, increasing by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, Kazakh media outlets reported.

The largest increase was registered in the country’s Akmola region, where the living wage increased by 18.9 percent. The same indicator increased by 17.4 percent and 15.9 percent in the Mangistau and West Kazakhstan regions.

The biggest living wage in Kazakhstan (32,300 tenge) was also observed in the Mangistau region.

The top three cities with the biggest living wage include Astana (30,600 tenge) and Almaty (29,900 tenge).

From 2012 to 2017, the living wage in Kazakhstan increased from 16,800 to 23,800 tenge.

Since the beginning of 2018, prices for consumer goods and services in the country have increased by 2.4 percent as well as by 6.2 percent year-over-year.

The increase in prices for goods and services in Kazakhstan remains much lower than the living wage.
