Malaysia to help Uzbekistan carry out 'digital revolution'

Malaysian IT company Silverlake Group jointly with the National Bank of Uzbekistan intends to implement a number of projects in Uzbekistan, introducing digital technologies in the economy of the country, Embassy of Uzbekistan in Malaysia stated June 22 referring to the business seminar in Kuala Lumpur on economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The event was attended by more than 30 representatives of 15 organizations and companies, including the Central Bank of Malaysia and the Malaysian Corporation for Development of Foreign Trade.

Director of the Silverlake Group Redzuan Kushairi spoke about the planned projects in Uzbekistan. Among them is creation of the Digital Economy Center jointly with the National Bank of Uzbekistan for development of mobile and internet payments and other banking services, as well as for introduction of software solutions for development of an ID card system for provision of all types of public services. The company will invest $50 million at the initial stage.

Vice President of Serbo Dinamik Palendran Palachandran reported on the projects “Construction of a plant for production of caustic soda” and “Creation of a technical park for repair of gas turbines” in Uzbekistan. The company is planning to invest $80 million at the initial stage. The company is also planning to open an office in Tashkent in July.

Director of the hotel department of the Frasers Hospitality Hotel, Jeffrey Mohammad expressed the company's interest in construction of hotels in Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent.

During the event, the two countries achieved an agreement to organize a visit of representatives of the business community of Malaysia in late October to hold a business forum in Tashkent.
