Uzbekistan will penalize structures forcing business entities to sponsor and engage in other activities, Uzbek media reported referring to the draft law providing for changes to the criminal code, as well as to the code of administrative responsibility.

Members of the Parliament of Uzbekistan noted that the amendments are aimed at further strengthening the independence of business entities and ensuring the inviolability of private property.

“The draft law provides for strengthening of liability for violation of the right of private property, of the procedure for conducting inspections of the activities of business entities and auditing their financial and economic activities, of the licensing legislation, as well as for demanding from business entities excessive documentation in violation of the law, and for for interference in legitimate business activities in general”, - the lower house of the Parliament of Uzbekistan noted.

Some five years ago, the practice of compulsory involvement of business in sponsoring various kinds of cultural and sporting events was still widespread in Uzbekistan.
