Dashoguz province, the northern region of Turkmenistan, is a major rice producer in the country, the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper wrote.

It has been planned to produce 35,000 tons of this crop this year.

Some 8,100 hectares are sown with high-yielding and disease-resistant rice varieties adapted to local soil and climatic conditions, such as "Nukus-2", "Munbashi" and "Alenga".

A full agricultural production cycle, including sowing, harvesting, storage and processing of rice grain has been established in the region. The harvesting equipment is represented by John Deere and CLAAS harvesters.

It was reported earlier that, it is planned to produce about 82,500 tons of rice in 2018 in Turkmenistan. It was planned to sow with rice 18,300 hectares in total in Dashoguz and Lebap regions.

Rice is rich in carbohydrates and is considered one of the main food products in Central and South-East Asia.
