Deposits of individuals in Azerbaijan reach 26-month high

The volume of deposits of individuals in Azerbaijan amounted to 8.1 billion manats in 1H2018, reaching a 26-month high, as appears from a report of the Central Bank.

The volume has increased by 7.2 percent since the beginning of the year and by 17.4 percent over a year.

The majority of deposits - almost 62.47 percent or 5.06 billion manats - have been placed in foreign currency. Nevertheless, the trend of growth of the deposits in the national currency remains. Their share has increased from 33.5 to 37.6 percent since the beginning of the year.

The total volume of deposits of legal entities in the banks of Azerbaijan amounted to 12.33 billion manats, having decreased by 5.44 percent since the beginning of the year.

The volume of deposits of financial institutions of Azerbaijan amounted to 1.73 billion manats at the end of June 2018, against 1.9 billion manats at the end of June 2017. Deposits of non-financial organizations amounted to almost 10.6 billion manats in June against 11.1 billion manats at the end of last year.

In general, the volume of deposits of legal entities and individuals in the banks of Azerbaijan amounted to 20.4 billion manats, which is 0.8 percent less than at the beginning of the year.

The deposits in the national currency amounted to 6.3 billion manats (30.8 percent of all deposits) and the deposits in foreign currency amounted to almost 14.14 billion manats (69.2 percent) at the beginning of July 2018.
